Direct Billing
Understanding our Toronto Direct Billing & Insurance
Our Water’s Edge administrative team made arrangement for direct billing with most insurance companies to eliminate stress and paperwork for our patients. This means we send bills directly to them and they pay our office directly so you are not involved.
We find this makes your dental office experience more pleasant and less stressful. You won’t seek reimbursement from insurance and won’t have to pay the entire bill out-of-pocket. It’s all handled seamlessly.
Direct Billing Expectations
Direct billing makes dental appointments easier. You don’t have to worry about paying an entire bill at the point of service. Here is how it works.
- Insurance Information: You will be required to present your insurance card or policy information with a policy number and your member number when you come for an appointment.
- Treatment: You will get exceptional care regardless of your insurance benefits.
- Claim Submitted: We electronically send your claim to your insurance company.
- Pay Information: We will get paid by the insurance company. When we find out the benefits and the amount paid to us, we inform you how much you will owe. This includes a co-payment, deductible, and any other charges not covered by your insurance.
You will not get a surprise bill after treatment. We notify you of all your financial responsibilities before you get treatment.
Partnering with Your Insurance Company
Our office accepts most insurance. Our staff can help you understand your benefits after we review your insurance information. We consult with you on your basic coverage so you can maximize its benefits. It is good for you to read your handbook and bring it with you so we can work through it together.

Direct Billing Frequently Asked Questions
Billing and payments make life stressful. At Water’s Edge, we try to make it simple with our transparent billing system.
What is Direct Billing?
Direct billing refers to us submitting claims to your insurance rather than mandating you do it. This way, you pay just the remaining balance that is either a co-payment or a procedure your insurance doesn’t cover. This prevents you from paying the whole bill and then getting reimbursed from insurance.
How does direct billing work in your clinic?
It makes your oral care much simpler. We gather your insurance details from you as a new patient and verify benefits. After treatment, we submit your claim electronically and the insurance pays for the treatment directly to our office. You don’t have to worry or intervene in billing.
What information do you need for direct billing?
We need insurance benefits information, preferably your insurance benefits card. We can also use the plan information that has the policy number and member identification.
What insurance do you accept?
We accept dental insurance from employers and major insurance companies. We also accept government insurance programs for low-income families, indigenous people, and refugees.
What happens if my insurance does not cover everything my treatment costs?
You will be liable for everything your insurance does not cover. However, our office staff checks benefits before your treatment and provides you with a transparent statement that outlines what your insurance covers and what it does not cover. The expected out-of-pocket cost will be outlined so you can prepare.
Does direct billing mean I will have no other costs?
No. Direct billing refers to how your bills are submitted to the insurance company. It makes it a simpler process for you but doesn’t alleviate other costs. You will be responsible for co-payments or other costs not covered by dental insurance. Most insurance doesn’t pay everything so you should expect some additional cost.
How can I know what my insurance covers?
You can check the plan yourself but our office staff can help. We help you submit estimates to your insurance so you will know how much will be covered. Typically, the insurance company will provide a booklet of benefits when you re-enroll for the new year. You should look at that to understand your benefits. Our administrative team can answer questions about billing and insurance. Contact them with any concerns or questions.
